Trauma Therapy for Veterans
Advanced Clinical Recovery for Operational & Combat Stress
VA Care Coordinator: (908) 263-1332Trauma therapy for veterans at Resilience NJ is a targeted clinical approach designed to process and resolve service-connected traumatic memories. We utilize evidence-based modalities like EMDR and CPT that are authorized by the VA and TRICARE. Our 2026 protocols go beyond standard counseling by addressing the "body-keep-score" aspect of trauma, helping Veterans lower their baseline of hypervigilance and regain emotional regulation with $0 out-of-pocket costs.
The Biology of Veteran Trauma
In the military, survival often depends on maintaining a state of high arousal. Trauma occurs when the nervous system remains "stuck" in this state long after the mission ends. Our therapy treats the veteran as a Tactical Athlete, focusing on the following tracks:
EMDR (Eye Movement)
The gold standard for veteran trauma. It bypasses the "logic" brain to process deep-seated combat memories that feel current and threatening.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
Addressing the moral injury and "stuck points"—beliefs about safety, trust, and power—that were altered during service.
Physiological Regulation
Utilizing Fernando’s Sports Science specialization (UNIFESP) to retrain the autonomic nervous system through biological feedback and regulation.
Sleep Recovery
Trauma-informed sleep protocols to reduce night terrors and hyperarousal, allowing the brain to recover during rest.
Why Sports Science in Trauma Therapy?
Our approach is uniquely informed by Fernando’s 18-month post-graduate work in Sports Science. We recognize that combat trauma creates a "performance deficit" in the brain and body. By treating trauma like an elite recovery mission—monitoring heart rate variability and biological markers of stress—we provide veterans with tangible, physical proof of their recovery journey.
