What is VA Mental Health Community Care?
VA Mental Health Community Care is a federal program that allows eligible Veterans to receive mental health services from private providers in their local area rather than at a VA facility. This program is designed to ensure Veterans have timely access to specialized treatments like PTSD therapy, CBT, and stress management when VA wait times exceed 20 days or travel distances are greater than 30 minutes.

The Path to Care: 2026 Process Map
Navigating the VA Community Care system can be complex. We’ve simplified the 2026 workflow for our NJ Veterans:
1. Eligibility
Confirm with your VA PACT team that you meet MISSION Act criteria.
2. The Request
Specifically request "Resilience NJ" in Mogi Guacu or your local NJ area.
3. Authorization
The VA issues a 14-digit auth number to our clinical team.
4. Intake
Schedule your first session within 48 hours of approval.
Why Specialized Community Care Matters
At Resilience NJ, we don't just "talk." We apply evidence-based Sports Science principles to mental health—focusing on physiological regulation and cognitive resilience. Our approach aligns with the VHA’s National Strategy for Mental Health.
Clinical Pro-Tip: High-powered recovery requires "Continuity of Care." Always ensure your community provider uses the VA's Health Information Exchange (HIE) so your VA doctors stay updated on your progress without you having to carry paper files.
Common Pitfalls in Community Care
- The Expired Auth: Veterans often assume care is permanent. Auth codes usually cover 12-24 sessions. We proactively request renewals 3 weeks out.
- Network Confusion: New Jersey is covered by different regions. Ensure your provider is registered with the correct administrator (Optum or TriWest).
